Be welcome to the Titania public Redmine installation!¶
Titania is one of roughly 6 active virtual machines running on the Dell PowerEdge Server of the student's representatives council of computer sciences. The server is located in the rooms of the IT service center (Rechenzentrum) of Saarland University and has a very good internet connection as well as redundant energy supply. The machine is connected to the UPS (uninterruppted power supply) which should imply, but does not guarantee, a very good uptime of the system.
Concerning data safety the system runs 3 SAS hard drives with 750 GB each, connected to a RAID 5 which means a usable disk space of 1.5 TB plus one drive for redundant data.
Concerning security issues of your Git repositories redmine uses an installation of Gitosis to manage access control via SSH public key authentication. You can manage the access rights for the projects you create by yourself via the Redmine web interface. Each person you give access to your project will have read and write access to the corresponding Git repository, if one exists. If you do not grant access rights to a user she cannot access your project/data.
We are backing up the complete Titania system via FTP to a NAS system with 6TB of storage space. It is located in the rooms of the student's representatives. The backups are encrypted and done on a daily base.
Public services provided to students on Titania are, amongst others, the Redmine project management system, Git hosting, as well as a Maven Nexus for library distribution in the Apache Maven build ecosystem.
Having said this you can decide for yourself if it is a good idea to host your project(s) on Titania. We hope you'll give it a try and report any feedback to services@titania.fs.uni-saarland.de. Please feel free to also write a mail if you know a service of which you think it is useful for the students in computer science and worth running it on Titania.
Currently we only support GIT repositories but we plan to introduce SVN and maybe Mercurial in the near future.
If you have any suggestions for improvement or you know a redmine plugin worth installing it here please report your issues to the Titania-Redmine project here in the project list.
Please note that we provide this service as is. We cannot give any guarantees concerning service availability or data safety. So please keep local backups of your data!
Cheers,
your student's representatives.
